Sattivik Food Habits: Spiritual Food habits:

Sattivik foods are those which are fresh and seasonal. Only a few spices are used. Foods are healthy. Such  Foods stabilise our mind and body. Foods are not always Rajasik and Tamasik but a way of preparation can make it Rajasik or Tamasik  Sometimes Sattivik Food is converted into Rajasik and Tamasik due to Preparation.

 Some people think by eating more food they can gain weight. They also think that eating little food can reduce their weight. It is a wrong concept. In the yogic principle, food would be the same influence for the overweighted or underweighted person. One can lose or increase his weight following the same eating principle as yogic science.

One day  Maharishi Charak was passing through a forest accompanied by a student.   All of a sudden, a bird was saying Karruk, Karruk and Karuk. The student asked  Maharishi what the bird was saying. Maharishi was a Great  Yogi.  He translates it to his students in the following way 

Karruk: Ritbhuk: Talk about seasonal food.

Karuk; Hitbhuk: Eat only the food items which is beneficial to our body.

 Karuk  : Mitbhuk: Eat less than appetite.

The basic Principles of Ritbhuk, Hitabook and Mitabook are to be followed in everyday life habits. It means seasonal, fresh, less than appetite and beneficial to health. 

Fruits and vegetables,

 Milk, Curd, Ghee, No spicy Food. No Garlic and Onion,  A Small quantity of Rice and handmade bread or Roti. No Sweet.

Two Great Yogi, Trayilanga Swami and Ramkrishna never eat Tamasik food. Trayilanga Swami lived free in society without clothes. In a Complaint from Judeges Wife, British Judges arrested him and chained him but when the  Judge went for a walk to the river of the Ganges, he found Swami in the river. Swami used to swim in the river. It surprised the Judge how a chained man in the lockup could swim. He returned to his office and observed that Swamiji was smiling at him. He freed  Swamiji and mentioned it in his judgement. 

 Swamiji did not take food given by the Tamasik people. Tamasik people are who follow corrupt practices in their life. Even he did not touch their food. Another great Yogi, Ramkrishna did not take the food of the corrupt people. Ramkrishna told his learned disciples that the Tamarisk people's presence caused a breathing problem for a Yogi. It would happen to Trayilanga Swami several times.

 Tamasik foods are to be avoided. Cooking Method can convert  Sattivk food to Tamasik food. Spicy and tasty food can be a Tamasik food. Rotten, Stored and dried food are Tamasik foods.

Sandle woods and flowers are taken as sacred and spiritual products in Hinduism. They can change your mind. 

Bathing suits are necessary for Spiritual life. Everyday bathing is necessary before the diet. It is a usual practice in India. After bathing everyone washed his used clothes and wore clean clothes before eating. 

Eating and Food Habit is the Inner Voice of Mind. Health and Fitness depend upon the choice of food.  Work out a recipe for cooking  Sattivic food. Eat less food and do not fill the stomach. After feeding, you can have to feel that some portion of the stomach is empty. Spiritual growth in life depends on food also.

 The ultimate goal of Yoga is mind control. To attain this goal food habits should be based on Sattvik. Harmony and peace of mind is desirable for Yoga and meditation. An active yoga lifestyle followed by positivity can help you, no other way. You can change your lifestyle by changing your bad and corrupt practices to make you Sattivk Personality.
