God come into the street to meet the devotees 

 Both Buddhists and Hindus come together to celebrate the day.

 The literal meaning of the word Jagannath is the Father of the Universe.The universe called Bhramanda.

 Jagannath is unshaped. It means that the idol is not complete.It means "God is infinite" .  Our wisdom and knowledge cannot define Him.We cannot draw a picture on Him because we have no fixed idea about Him. 

Three God and Goddesses travel  into the street to meet the devotees.


Suvadra, Bolvadra and Jagannath travel the road riding on the chariot or Ratha.

Three different Rathas, each with a different name, come into the street.

 The  Nandi Ghosh is the Name of Jagannathdev's Rath. The ratha is the highest Ratha among the three. All were fixed a thousand years ago, with 862 wooden pieces, 44.2 inches in height, length and width of 34.6 inches. Seven horses pull the Ratha. The colour is yellow and red.

The second ratha is for  Bolvadra.  Its name is Taldhaj or LangalDhaj. Height is 43.3 inches, wheels 14, wooden pieces  763, length and width of the Ratha are 33 inches. Four horses pull the raha. The colour is red and blue. Four horses pull the Ratha

The name of the Saffron Flag is Trailokya Mohini.

Sankhya Chur and Nagini are the names of the ropes.

Ratha or chariot is a vehicle only. It can carry only. In Indian Philisophy body is compared with the chariot. In the eye of Upanishad, " Atamanang Rathinang Biddhi Sharrirang Rathemaba tu". 

Body is called "Body Ratha ".

Driver or  Sarathi of the Body Ratha  Is the intelligence, Boarder is the soul.

Horses are the symbol of Fifth sensation , Break or Lagam is the  Mind. Conjugal Journey of mind and sensation causes the suffering of the body and soul. The Festival asked you to be free from bonding of the attachment .
