Rathajatra and Rathajatra is a spiritual event of Hindu life.  It is a spiritual and spiritual journey of God by which He comes on the road to connect Himself with the devotees. Pulling and holding the rope of the Chariot, devotees get extended his connectivity with  God. Social and spiritual connectivity increases.

From  ancient times Rathajatra is happening in Puridham. Puri is a city of Odisha .According to Hindu Purana years, it has been   happening as before for  4200000 year. This time is called Satya Yuga.

There are three God and Goddess who used to visit the devotees. The God Jagannath is the symbol of supreme power.Jagat means universe ,Nath means master of all. The second one is the Rath of Subhadra. Third one is the Ratha of Balaram or Bollovadra.

In the eye of Buddhism, and Jagannath and Jagannath is the Buddha himself. Subhadra is the Dharma and Bolvadra is the organisation . According to Jain, he is the Rishava, the first God of the world. Jagannath is the symbol of God who delivers knowledge, wisdom and inner outlook of the mind. To a Shakta, She is the Devi Kalika. To a Bhairav, he is Devi Bimala. He is Shiva to a Shaivya. To a follower of Aditya (Sun) , He is the Divakar.To a follower of Ganesh, He is Ganesh. He is Visnu to a Baisnav

Puri Dham is a Shakti pith. The navel lotus part of Sati Devi's body had fallen here. The Savar king Biswabasu worshipped him as a god.

To a follower of  the Vedas, he is the Parambrahma. So this idol is called Daru Bhramma.

The three idols are different from the other Idols of Hinduism. The other Idol are made of earth or stone or metal, but the Jagannath Idol is made of  Daru wood.Daru wood is Neem wood.

The Idol of Jagannath is different from others Hindu and Hindu Idol. He is incomplete and a symbol of infinity. God is infinite and embedded in the universe.We can feel Him but beyond imagination, knowledge and wisdom. He is called Bhramma. He cannot be described in any way. He is not an  Avatarbut in Odisha literature said to us that he was 9th Avatar of Vishnu.

There are three circles on the upper head of the body and a space. It is the symbol of infinity. People cannot think of it. The space is unknown to Infinity is the unknown 

The Rathajatra is the symbol of unity and integrity. Social connectivity increases through Rathajatra.

Buddhism being part of  Hinduism started its journey as an organised religion. Buddhists organised atrocities against Hindus. The devotees of Jagannath transfer the idol to a secret place. But a long time has passed. People had forgotten the place where the Idol was kept . Adi Shankaracharya  Yogi visited the temple. He asked the devotees about the idol. How can a temple be without an Idol  ? he asked. Devotees said to him, "The Idol was transferred to a secret place.  We have forgotten the place where it was kept.

Shankaracharya told the devotees that he would search  for it through meditation . Everyone had  agreed  including the King of Odisha  . All were eagerly waiting for this. The Adi Shankaracharya searched it out and ordered them to replace the Idol.

 Ma Sarada visited the Rathajatra of Puridham . When she was in the temple area  , a girl came to her and asked to observe and enjoy the Idol with a full heart. And said to  Ma Sarada that Jagannath Idol had   been built in accordance to the Vedant philosophy.

Chaitnya Mahaprabhu visited the place.He left Bengal due to the atrocities against Hindus by the foreign invaders. He was under attack in Bengal.He died in Puridham.

What is the time of Rathajatra? : Rathajatra 2025

Rathajatra started on the day of Ashar and it is the day of Sukhla Phakhsa  Dwitiya . The date is fixed according to the planetary systems of the universe and this is named as tithi. According to english calender the day is the day of 25th June to 5th July of the 2025. Festival will be for nine days.

What is the height of the Rathas ?

In Puri, 33 hands and 15 fingers are the height of the Ratha of Jagannath 

32 hands and 10 fingers are the height of the Ratha of Bolvadra.

31 hands are the height of the Ratha of Subhadra.

How many wheels are in the Ratha?

16 wheels 832 pieces of wood are used in the Ratha of Jagannath.

14 wheels and 760 pieces of wood are used to build the Ratha of Bolvadra.

12 wheels and 590 pieces of wood are used to build the Ratha of Suvadra.

How many stages does Rathajatra follow?

Important days of Rathajatra 

1) Akshay Tritiya is the auspicious day when devotees start to build Rathas.

2) Snanjatra of the God and Goddess happened before Rathajatra. Bathing day is the Snanjatra. Nine golden jars are used to bathe. A total of 108 jars are used to bathe.

3)Rest for seven days. They reside behind the closed door.

4) Rathajatra begins when God and Goddess come onto the Street to meet the devotees.

5)Ulto Rathajatra. A return Journey from the house of the Gundicha temple.

How many Rathas were there in ancient times?

There were six Rathas in the Jagannath temple. There was a river on the route of Rathajatra, named Malini. In ancient times, the journey of God used to happen in two parts. But the king of Odisha (1238 to 1364) Birsingha ,  filled the river with earth.   The problem of the parts Journey ended. The number of Rathas has been reduced to three.  Rathajatra is a spiritual journey of 28 miles
